BUGrip carbide studded running shoes

I purchased a pair of Pytho BUGrip sneakers from Amazon.com for $50 on sale and they are a revelation in winter running.

They are pretty standard running sneakers with carbide studs in them much like a high quality studded snow tire for a car or bicycle.  The carbide should make them last a long time compared to regular steel studs but I haven't used these nearly enough to know if they will last as well as the carbide studs in my super Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded tires on my mountain bike.  This model of their offerings is water resistant I think rather than waterproof but they took a really sloppy day or two and kept my feet dry.  I'll probably spray them with Scotchgaurd once I clean them up.  They do make quite a bit of noise on dry pavement and an are still loud on wet pavement but I found that to be handy running in Boston and Cambridge as people get the heck over to the right on the sidewalk making it easier to move in the few busy spots on my regular runs.  The ice studs squish into the shoe on hard ground so they still have solid grip on dry and wet blacktop and concrete which beats most of the things you can attach to your shoes.

I went searching to see if something like this was out there after having a sore lower back attributed to the odd posture I ran in when we had a lot of ice.  I hadn't even fallen down but I need more flexibility so 4+ miles in a lower crouching style was too much and with these I can run across a frozen pond or sidewalk in normal form.  They are a bit stiffer riding than a nice running show like a Gel Nimbus but worth it for the winter here and the black ice at 6:30AM.
