Great Local Camera Store!

twillettnotes: 261 | friends: 59 for: photography, prints, experts, equipment
07/13/08:    Newtonville camera is a real, honest to goodness, family owned photography store. They have all levels and costs of equipment, and they have a dedicated staff of father, son, and others to answer any questions about your equipment, technique, or anything camera related. They also make prints, though I have not tried that aspect. They also have video and pro photography equipment for rent if you have a limited time task and don't want to buy the whole setup.

Of course they have overhead and staff, so they cannot always match internet prices, but I am more than happy with their service and find the price + sales tax difference worth it for most items.
I have been buying cameras from them for years, and I hope others will get to experience a proper photo pro shop experience as well!!

Support these guys

12/04/08: There are obvious reasons why a local small business can't compete with the likes of Amazon.com, BUT there are also obvious reasons why we should support our local small businesses - and here is just one great example...

Theresa and I were walking past the Newtonville Camera & Video store, and we recalled wanting to checked out the Canon SX10 for its video capabilities (I thought it could do HD 720p), especially compared to the Canon FS10 hi def video camera.

So, we walked in and were able to test drive both, but here is the thing. We didn't know what the video would look like on our computer at home. I asked the sales guy if they had any inexpensive memory cards, so that we could take the "footage" home and download it on to our computer, but we thought that it was fiscally irresponsible to just get a card that we'd never use again. Then, the sales guy suggested that we should just borrow the card that's in the camera - what? Yup, borrow the card, and bring it back - no big deal.

We're still not sure what the right choice is for us, but once we get there, we'll do all we can to return the favor. Thanks guys!

07/13/08: I used to work next door to Newtonville Camera for 10 years in the 80's and know Paul, the owner is a true blue entrepreneur and very customer centric. Great selection of Prosumer and Professional equipment. However just to let you know I called them recently because I wanted to have my camera cleaned, and they do not offer this as a service, I was very surprised, seems it would be a great service to offer.
